    Description

Up for sale is a book titled
    The American Clock: 1725-1865
, written in 1973 by Edwin A. Battison and Patricia E. Kane.
The clocks illustrated in this book are – inside and out – among the most interesting works of early American Craftsmanship. The fifty examples here presented of tall, shelf, and wall (banjo) clocks are from one of the great public collections in the country, that at Yale University. For each clock, large, clear illustrations of the movement are included, as well as photographs of the case and dial, with full information on place and date of manufacture, materials and dimensions, a commentary and bibliography. In addition to the essays and catalogue notes, the book contains a general annotated bibliography, a glossary with line drawings, and an index. The contributors to this study are distinguished authorities on the subject of time-keeping devices and furniture. Edwin A. Battison was Curator of Horology at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and Patricia E. Kane was Assistant Curator of the Mabel Brady Garvan and Related Collections of American Art. Hard cover with jacket. 207 pages. Excellent condition. – Book 1,368
